I'd agree about just being patient for offsets. At that size, they're very likely to come next year.
Try rooting individual flower stem leaves/bracts from Sedum suaveolens, rather than the flower stem itself. I haven't tried this with suaveolens, but it works well with some Echeverias.

Re: Umbilicus rupestris
I'm not sure if I'll get any seed but my hopes of getting a little colony going here are still alive. I think it's self fertile. It seldom seems to seed into open ground, but seeds readily into gravel, whether just gravel or gravel top dressing over compost. Tricky to remove it from a clump of hard...

Re: Agave talk & pictures
Agave attenuata is unusual among Agaves in not having a sharp spike on the end of each leaf. Much safer than most for use in areas with children. Commonly used as a (summer) bedding plant in botanical or other large gardens in the UK, but planted out year round in gardens and public areas in Austral...

Re: Aporocactus flagelliformis cultivation
Thanks Mike. How hardy is it, do you know? I don't have any Disocactus as they don't tend to be very hardy, if I recall correctly..... Both flagelliformis and x mallisonii survived the 2010-11 winter in an unheated greenhouse (many other previously hardy plants didn't) and had been fine without hea...

Re: Aporocactus flagelliformis cultivation
Is Aporocactus mallisonii a good species? Never heard of it until I saw a post there now on Facebook. Or is it some sort of a Disocactus hybrid? I can’t find much on it. It's a hybrid, so should be Disocactus x mallisonii. It's D. flagelliformis x D. speciosus. Stems are quite a bit thicker than fl...

Re: August: Aloe
Thanks to everyone who entered; I won't attempt to comment on every entry. I was very impressed by Juster's Aloe haworthiodes , superb plants, which would surely win first prize if the plants themselves were being judged. It must be quite a job to move one around or repot  Also impressed by Ed'...

Re: Composts
I'm not reading too much into this other than there is a need to do long-term tests first before moving everything over to a new formulation. Otherwise bad stuff can happen even if it takes a few years to show up... We have a problem, though, because although the label on the bag might be the same,...
