Re: Seed germination

The trick I found with seeds is (up to a point depending on your space) is to go big. I always tried to plant lots of seeds with the expectation that I would always loose a percentage of them. 20% off 10 is 8, 20% off 100 is 80. Having more seeds hides the losses as it were. . . They'll sort themsel...

Re: latest con

I don't generally get spam - and if I do it goes in the spam folder. The only spam I get like this "can I ask a favour" is from people connected to the BCSS. I've found the emails in my deleted folder and checked the "raw messages" and Bill has signed off as BILL, exactly has he ...

I like the way that the fence is held up by the plant......

If the plant did fall over that concrete post and the brick wall don't stand a chance.

Re: latest con

This isn't BCSS specific (though it does seem to happen a lot). It is just one of those things that happens from time to time. Usually the spam filters get it, but occasionally they don't. They just need blocking and deleting. Telling the person "who it is from" won't help as there is noth...

Re: BCSS AGM 2024 - Unappealing photo!

If I might explain the process of how a listing is made it might help people understand better. To tell us about events people need to log in to the website and use the correct page to submit the event. This is done by filling in a simple form which asks for a the event name, date/time, a contact an...

Re: BCSS AGM 2024 - Unappealing photo!

I am the person who does the events listings and I would dearly love there to be a better picture than that, but that is the image was supplied to use last year . If any one wants to make a proper poster I would be very happy to see if we can consider swapping the image. The events listings in gener...

Re: Cacti Without Soil

I've switched to pumice. Plants seem much happier in my conditions. Words of caution though. ALL the soil and old fine roots need removing before potting into pumice, and expect plant losses. You'll know when it works as you'll be able to pick the pot up by the plant body and everything will stay in...

Re: Website broken links

Also, for what it is worth, I'd probably never actually click on an email link on a website. I'd, by default, just copy and paste it into my web browser TO box, so I suspect mailto: links never work for me whatever the website. http://www.cactusexplorers.org.uk/ and here https://www.rrm.me.uk/ / as ...

Re: Website broken links

To confirm, it is not the website at fault here. The problem is with the mail setup on individual's computers. "mailto" instructions from a website are for an email client, not a browser. If your default "mail" app setting under windows "default apps" is a browser, not...

Covering plants with paper is probably like putting a wooly hat on our head.
