3KW Heaters - SOLVED

Hi,

I had a bit of a panic last night because my weather station remote told me the greenhouse was too cold. It was -2C outside. Naturally I nipped up there and found one heater not working, and the other working but making a noise, which I suspect is a bearing gone, and the fan was running a bit slow.They are well over 15 years old, so they don't really owe me anything. The internal thermostats gave up years ago, and the Biogreen Thermo2 which replaced them are working well.
Looking on the internet, I have come across the https://www.onestopgrowshop.co.uk/light ... eater.html which is pretty cheap in comparison to the old Biogreen heaters.
I've done some searches on this forum but can't find any reports on this make, so I thought I'd ask in case they are a false economy.

A friend has one that looks to be the same design but a different colour and it certainly puts out plenty of heat but he only bought it at the start of last winter so no idea on longevity beyond that. The thermostat on his is rubbish but you won't need that anyway.

At 3kw she'll be pulling the full 13 Amps from standard domestic 13A socket, if that's what you're using.
Your Biogreen is max 13A as well.

They have a square 2Kw model also. Would that have enough bang for you?

I don't know the product but I am sure that the fact that it is produced by a company that started out just making budget grow tents for stingy "tomato" growers is very reassuring.

I would feel safer buying one from an office supplies store.

I have two of these, Chris.
They are robust, simple and well made.
That is a very good price for them. You can pay anything between £50 and £65 for them elsewhere.
You can select 1.5kw or 3kw heat setting. The downside is when it is not heating, the fan also stops.
Conversely, you can select fan only for summer use.
I have not had them longer enough to give them 5* but I too wanted something cheaoer than my 20+ year old life-expired models.

Haberanocat - thanks for the suggestion, but I do need 6 kw into the greenhouse. When I planned it I had the electrician lay a cable that could take 10kw, so I have enough power. I have thought aboiut 2kw heaters, probably need 3 of them, more in terms of redundancy. But in case of need, I have a couple of fan heaters which are for domestic use which could be brought into the dry greenhouse as a temporary measure.

Pattock - I am sure that this company doesn't make the heater. There are several suppliers, just that this was the cheapest!

I was referring to the branding on it http://www.lighthousetents.com , not the One Stop Grow Shop. I doubt they make it either but they presumably commissioned it from the usual suspects.

Just FYI, LightHouse is one of several Brands under the umbrella of HydroGarden Ltd, a hydroponics company based in Coventry. This product is of course manufactured in the People's Republic of China just like many other things we buy.

That is slightly more reassuring. They are one of the more respectable suppliers to criminal gangs.

I've got at least one, and maybe two, 2nd hand 3kW Parwin heaters here (one with a replaced thermostat) which I'd be happy to get £30 for, plus the cost of cheapest parcel (Hermes?).
