Re: Hildewintera x "Helin's neue"
A lovely plant but I suspect the label has got a bit faint; the cultivar name is actually 'Helm's Neue'. This was introduced about 10 years ago and is said to be the unlikely progeny of Hildewintera auriespina (Cleistocactus winteri) and Chamaecereus sylvestrii (Echinopsis chamaecereus). It really is a superb addition to any cactus collection and repeat flowers right through the summer.
There are now quite a number of Hildewintera hybrids available from specialist outlets - visit the ELK meeting if you want some more. They vary a lot in colour of flower and thickness of stem but they all seem to have the intriguing flower form of the Hildewintera parent.
