Picked up at my local society sale last week but no-one was 100 percent sure what it was. Any ideas?

I would think so, yes. Have you repotted it already? Did it have a bit of a tuberous root?

I'd see as a probable name Gymnocalycium schickendantzii also.

I´d say something like Thelocactus rinconensis .
