G.baldianum flower abort
The G.baldianum that I bought in summer had a big flower bud developing while in the greenhouse, but as it was getting cold I brought indoors. The bud began to open then suddenly it began to wither. Probably too late in the season. When I bought it it had a ring of flower buds but when the large one developed the others atrophied.
You can take the boy out of the greenhouse, but you can't take the greenhouse out of the boy!

Update, I just noticed webbing at the base of the bud, and inside was a tiny green caterpillar!

The caterpillar wouldn't help! Gymnocalycium flowers generally like quite a bit of warmth to open. If they don't get it for a few weeks then the flower will just give up, or maybe it did even open a few times without you spotting it.

Re: G.baldianum flower abort
I always find that my Gymnocalycium flowers open in the afternoon. If the day is dull and cloudy then flowers that are trying to open won't open fully, or at all.
