What kind of help?
I am sorry for the delay in replying - I don't get out much :-)

Its all aspects of booking a speaker I need help on. So a quick check list

1. Find a speaker (I and we can all help a bit here)
2. Book a speaker.
3. Write a short piece to promote the talks (or ask the speaker to do this for you) and get some pictures
4. Do a test run for the speaker so there are no surprises on the day
5. Arrange to promote the talk on Enews / Web / Facebook by contacting the appropriate people
6. Host the meeting. - We can either use the existing account and I can open it for you to host or I can sit at the front if you want but its nice for other people to take the credit or we will get s specific account for the team to manage.

I believe that as so many branches are holding zoom meetings now that the BCSS meetings should go to monthly - perhaps the last Sunday of the month and that way we may attract more people who may be working during the week.

Having now managed and booked 50+ meetings (It will be the 50th with Wolfgang) I feel that the time is right for someone else to have a go while I address other BCSS matters. I have booked up meetings until the end of April.

I DON'T want the zoom meetings to stop as its a great way to engage with our members and friends who cannot get to meetings. I also hope that branches will open their doors to friends as well so that we can all get our regular BCSS fix.

Good growing.

I believe it is possible to have a poll on Zoom. You could ask what the best day is for the audience at the next meeting. Of course, this would be biased towards those for whom the best time is Tuesday evening at 7:30.

Well done on all you have done with this, Ian, it is very much appreciated. Accessibility for those with special needs is often overlooked. This last year we have all had special needs and have learnt new ways of managing.

Also, more writing in the presentation slides would help for the hard-of-hearing, etc., if subtitles are too much to cope with.

I think that accessibility issues are very important and its good to get feedback such as this. I often tell speakers that putting the plant name on the slide helps. One or two have tried getting the automatic subtitles but in the tests that I run some times it upsets the speed of the presentation or the sound. Its a fine balancing act.

To answer your question about days for the talk. When branches get back to normal then there are branches that meet on every day of the week apart from Sunday which is why I suggested that. There is already a branch that was planning their own zoom meetings this year and started them off on a tuesday to get people back into the swing of branch meetings forgetting about the BCSS main zoom evening.

However, if someone wants to take this over then it will be their call.

Kind regards
Ian

No it wasn't.

They only get live streamed with the permission of the speaker.

Ok thanks Chris, I put the adverts on Reddit and every week different people ask. Is there a way for me to find out myself rather than keep asking here?

Assuming you are watching the presentation live on Zoom it shows "Live Streaming" in the top left hand corner.

To be honest, given that Ian reported (up-thread) that someone had uploaded one of the presentations to YouTube, it wouldn't surprise me if none of them get live streamed now.

Maybe something like "there is no guarantee the presentation will be live streamed, so the best way to ensure you see it is to watch it via zoom" within your advert would stop (most) people asking.
