I've started making a list, but after about 15 minutes realised I'm just noting down all plants shown... I absolutely need to add a few more bulbs to my two Albucas!

Let's get a plug in for Rareplants.eu/es/de https://www.rareplants.es/shop/default.asp? as soon as possible. Selling all their Canary endemic seeds off because the law is changing and they won't be able to sell them anymore. Get them while you can. All from cultivated plants.

In the chat at the end of this evenings talk, Ian seems to have confused Wolfgang's reference to problems with Canaries plant supply with the general kerfuffle between Britain and Europe. This is a specific change proposed in the law in the Canaries that will ban seeds and plants of Canary endemics being sold, even from cultivated plants.
...just this week a new future local law has been announced for the Canary islands, which will make it impossible for us to maintain most of the Canary endemics we have been cultivating and propagating for more than 30 years and selling seeds for more than 20 years. This in many aspects rather unfortunate law is still a draft only, yet it is foreseeable that there won't be too many changes, at least not concerning locally endemic plants.
This was discussed in this thread:

Great talk, very well-presented.

Thank you Pattock! I'm glad I could contribute to this great series of talks yesterday!
I was asked to mention again the website where the PDF presentations on cacti & succulents are made freely accessible (> 70!): This is http://netzmanager.de/, organised by Norbert & Elisabeth Sarnes (aka Nobby & Lisi). Even though only the German titles are listed, English versions are also available for many of them. This also applies to my presentations on the Canaries available there:
  • Größte Vielfalt auf engstem Raum - Vegetationszonen der Kanarischen Inseln
(Greatest Variety in the Smallest Space - Vegetation Zones of the Canary Islands)
  • Von La Graciosa nach Fuerteventura Teil 1+2
(From La Graciosa to Fuerteventura Pt. 1+2)
  • Gran Canaria jenseits der Bettenburgen
(Gran Canaria beyond the Giant Hotels)
  • Kakteen als Nutzpflanzen
    (Cacti as Useful Plants)
    [at least there's a Canarian part ...]

After umpteen visits to photograph succulents in Southern Africa, I was keen to reach more remote areas. When asked, Ernst van Jaarsveld (from Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens) suggested I join one of his expeditions to Namibia, exploring the southernmost mountains. This travelogue (along the lines of a ripping yarn) tells the story of botanising in these rarely visited mountains looking for new discoveries. Unusual Aloes and Mesembs were found as well as Adromischus and Tylecodon, with a backdrop of spectacular scenery.

Thomas Brand - Uncommonly mean - thrips
Growers of succulent plants have often had unpleasant experiences with malformed leaves, buds and flowers, corking, discolouration and contamination on their plants. The search for the cause sometimes leads to small, elongated insects that live more or less hidden on our plants. The Western Flower Thrips in particular is infamous, and rightly so - but there are a few other thrips species, and their way of life and the possible countermeasures are also presented. This talk is not for the faint-hearted!
Since his youth, Thomas Brand has been associated with cacti and other succulents and has turned his hobby into a profession - he is a trained gardener, a qualified horticulturist and phytopathologist, which means that he deals professionally with diseases and pests on plants.

Paul Hoxey - Cactus highlights of Peru –from the Pacific coast to the high Andes
Paul has been fortunate to make a number of trips to Peru and his talk gives a flavour of the diverse habitats where cacti are found and a selection of the more than 180 species which are native to the country. Some will be familiar and others less so. There will be species which can be recommended for the greenhouse and others firmly in the category ‘best seen in habitat’ or on your computer screen during the talk.
Paul joined the BCSS back in 1987 as a teenager but had started a collection of cacti a few years earlier with a gift of a Chamaecereus silvestrii. After building up a collection, mainly through growing from seed, he first saw plants in the wild during a trip to Mexico in 1996. Although still enjoying all aspects of cultivating plants he became ‘hooked’ on looking for and finding plants in habitat.

There will be a double zoom meeting from the Mesemb Study Group in about one hour, at 19:30 BST / 20:30 CET.

Andy Young has agreed to give a presentation to the Mesemb Enthusiasts: "A Personal A-Z of Mesembs, Part 1" (Part 2 has been booked for October 2021)

Andy is well known to readers of this periodical and his writings are primarily a journal of his travels accompanied by Chris Rodgerson but they have been accompanied by Alice and Alan vanden Bon. Risking life and limb Andy has climbed crevases, gulleys, rocky terrain and untarred roads in search of the elusive conophytums, discovering new taxa, marvelling at other succulents and taking wonderful images to share with us and to enhance his lectures. A treat is in store.

Following this, Catherine Arthur, an English woman in Spain, will give a 30 minute presentation on the Genus Gibbaeum.
