I didn’t mean to make you nervous, sorry Ralph, I’m sure you’ll be fine. I did only put it around in the related plant, botany, cactus etc.. sections though. There has been about 200 likes/upvotes so far so more people should have seen it than that. Looking forward to it too, I wish I had started watching the other talks earlier

Just a heads up - some branches want to keep their own meetings LOW KEY. If you want to post details about those it is better to make sure you've got permission from each branch.

If every branch were to be having zoom meetings and someone decided to go to all of them the only night one wouldn't be attending a zoom meeting would be Sunday. Every other day of the week, every week of the year would be a branch meeting. Seriously......

I've promoted branch meetings before and it is a complex head exploding X( exercise to keep track of everything in order......

That's a nice problem to have, isn't it? From the attendee perspective of course.

Each Branch has it's meetings up on their own webpages which can be found if looked for. There must be something like 800+ meetings that occur each (normal) year.

The worry for some branches is they only have a limited attendance allowance on their zoom license (100), and what they may not want is for normal branch members to be unable to get in because far too many people have already joined. Also I understand some prefer to chat more and if there are dozens of strangers then it isn't the same atmosphere.

On the promotion side a few years ago myself and Greg B promoted the meetings via Twitter. Honestly it made my head hurt trying to get the meetings in date order - the branches list them as 2nd Saturday or 1st Wednesday in every month etc. Easy, no? Until you realised that most months (for example) the 1st Monday comes after the 1st Wednesday..... and the 2nd Friday is only a day before the 1st Thursday...... (and multiple variations on the theme).

Ralph has been growing cacti and succulents since he was in primary school, when he acquired a Rebutia minuscula at a fete. He recently retired to North Wales, and there built his dream greenhouse - and Rebutias and Aylosteras still comprise one of the main parts of his collection. He studied Latin at school, but much of that concerned the Romans fighting wars, so is of rather limited use in this talk, as you might imagine. In fact, botanical Latin would probably seem very foreign to the Romans, as we will see as we explore how plant names work, and what the Latin names of cacti and succulents mean.
