BCSS Virtual National Show

Post by Bill »

We were all bitterly disappointed that it was necessary to cancel the National Show.

Realising how many of us had nurtured and cared for our plants in preparation for the big day, the Social Media team, under Bill Hildyard, has proposed that we run a Virtual National Show. This will be judged on Saturday 4 July by National Show Judge, Stirling Baker.

With the help of Gareth Darbon from the Shows Committee we have compiled a show schedule (attached) and we hope you will enter this as a fun event. We have kept the rules to a minimum and the event is open to members and non- members alike.

As some people will not have a copy of the Handbook of Shows we have detailed which plants are allowed in the class description (apart from Cereus which would make the list below just too long).

Mainly Haworthia and Gasteria, a few other South African succulents and the odd spiky thing.

What format are the images supposed to be in?
Is there a minimum/maximum size .
Also it mentions pot cleaning, how much are we supposed to show ? I wasn't going to include any pot.

Please can we have details of what will happen to these photos? Ordinary members are asking if they will be able to see them all on platforms other than Facebook?

Best wishes,

I should be able to upload them to the BCSS library if I get access to the originals - could copy from Facebook but it makes high compression/low quality images. Currently not many images in library so not much point in revealing URL but it should be accessible from any device via any web browser.

Agreed. I'm not really sure why Facebook needs to be part of this, when the BCSS has its own website.

I agree with the comments above re Facebook. Nice to spread the message more we felt perhaps but much better to have them located on the BCSS site.

Yes I agree with the above, I don't use Facebook and have no interest in it.

Same!
Endeavouring to grow Aylostera, Echinocereus, Echinopsis, Gymnocalycium, Matucana, Rebutia, and Sulcorebutia. Fallen out of love with Lithops and aggravated by Aeoniums.
Currently being wooed by Haworthia, attempting hybridisation, and enticed by Mesembs.
