Mesembs have a habit of germinating in waves if the seed is fresh. Can be tricky to handle seedlings that show up a couple of months late.
Dinteranthus seedlings are finicky enough without tiny ones appearing when the others want to be drying out in the sun.
Lithops do it too. This is L. aucampiae, so quite a robust one that should cope with either the big ones getting too much water or the little ones not enough.
And this is just plain stubborn. One capsule off my Redhorn plants produced seed which are very reluctant to germinate. There should be 20+ seeds in this pot, but this is all I've got to show for it. At least it won't need transplanting for a decade or two.
