What is wrong with my tephrocactus?

The top is growing but the main body is shrinking? Does it need more water
or is it the heat that is causing it?

A bit thirsty, and it is very hot. Unless it is short on roots, it should be very happy taking up water at the moment. Summers growers for sure.

Water is sent preferentially to the higher segments, so the lower ones will often get wrinkly. Trying to keep them all fat will just make the top segment fall off. Try some water anyway, I think it will help.

Thanks!

I have just given it a good drink, it'll probably get another one over the next few days if the storms come this way.
