Graphomya maculata, I believe. No, not a new succulent, but the species of this fly which impaled itself on one of my Aylosteras...
I'm pretty impressed with the macro shots which can be achieved by the cameras in phones these days.

Have you tried taking them through a 10x loupe? Mealy bugs are actually quite pretty!ralphrmartin wrote: ↑Sat Sep 12, 2020 5:59 pm [...]

If I understand correctly from the pro-Photo press .... you ain't seen nuttin' yet!
Watch out for some stupendous developments in imaging technology ... And don't expect your DSLR camera to be the centre of imaging excellence.

Re: And now for something completely different
I've got a little external lens that I bought for a pound or two in a nicknack shop in China. It clips over the phone camera, for even closer ups, but it seems I dont really need it!
(No, I dont want to go into mealy bug ID down to species level...)

Re: And now for something completely different
Both are fair points, looks like my 3 years old (-ish) mobile doesn't have as good zoom and macro capabilities - but I also don't need to know which exact mealy bug is munching my plants, so will keep it for now!ralphrmartin wrote: ↑Sun Sep 13, 2020 4:45 pm I've got a little external lens that I bought for a pound or two in a nicknack shop in China. You mean there is more than one species?ralphrmartin wrote: ↑Sun Sep 13, 2020 4:45 pm (No, I dont want to go into mealy bug ID down to species level...)
It would just be my luck that mine will be all hybrids.
