Jane, I love the vibrancy of that bottom one - does it have a name?

Sorry no. Suspect it’s hybrid.

Love that top one Terry, very nice. And no problem Jane - I shall keep my eyes out for a similarly bright one when I'm allowed out again! 😂

Usually Lidl has cactus including Schlumbergera at this time of year ..... but not this year.

Think IKEA have bought them all...

(Though they're out of stock!)

My two decent local garden centres usually have a few in so just got to keep my eyes peeled for a nice vibrant one like your orange one of Jane's!

IKEA is no-go here in Leeds ... daughter says it was like a rugby ruck last weekend. Not seen any in GHs locally but am looking.

It might be worth repeating because it may not be known to some of our newer growers, but yellows and oranges need to be kept warm when in bud, probably a minimum of 15C. At lower temperatures, they develop a lot of pink/red pigments and the colour is adulterated.

I think I'm correct in saying that Terry's advice also relates to white flowered plants, which produce pinky red flowers at lower temperatures

Thanks Terry and Ross. Mine is thoroughly spoilt in a centrally heated office with conservatory roof! Gets down to a low of around 8-10 degrees for a couple of weeks during the Christmas holiday and around 20 the rest of the time! I just have to make sure it doesn't get too much sun for most of the year!

Ross is spot-on. The red-purple pigment is produced in all the cultivars at low temperatures but only becomes evident in the pale-coloured ones, including the whites.

The office sounds ideal.
