Updated my Cactus Flower galleries

If anyone is interested in having a look I've updated the galleries on my website to include the many pictures I've taken last year of my cacti in flower.

The pictures cover 2011 to 2020, so I was surprised to see it is 10 years since I started taking photos of the flowers on a regular basis.

If you have a look, I hope you like them.

I've looked at some Chris and they are just lovely, excellent photography and it is great just to enjoy some cactus flowers in the winter. Well done and thanks (tu). I shall save the rest for later!

You have some beautiful plants. I am particularly jealous of your Frailea Castanea with open flowers!

Do you use a black backdrop or a flashgun with the sync set up so only the plant is illuminated?

The technique that has developed over the years is to have a big piece of velvet flat on the kitchen floor near the back door and have strong but difuse sunlight coming in from the left. The black background is the shadow cast by the kitchen door on the black velvet. If using velvet it is important (I think) to make sure the nap of the cloth brushes smooth away from the camera.

This year I've used a strong LED light on the right hand side to cancel out the shadow caused by the sun.

Most pictures are "as is" from the camera, but occasionally I use a little "black paint" in a photo editor to mask any areas that need it, which hopefully the viewer cannot see......

It is a bridge camera (Panasonic Lumix) on a mini tripod with the camera on the macro setting, usually 3x zoomed in so that I can have the camera a little further away from the subject. Often the camera is still around 6cm (2") or so from the flower.

That’s a lot of flowering cacti photos. You must have put a lot of work into your website.

Nicely done.
