Re: Cacti identification thread
Bump, the Gymno, Melo and Mammillaria could still use some identification/confirmation help!

Re: Cacti identification thread
That's a lot of spones for G, pflanzii and on quite a young plant, so I'd say it is going to grow up into G. saglionis. It will be obvious when it flowers, even more obvious when it gets to a foot across.
The Mammillaia isn't 'Toluca'. I don't even think it is M. polythele. Could it be a baby M. backebergiana or two?

Re: Cacti identification thread
That's a second vote for G. saglionis, G. saglionis it is then (until proven otherwise)!
On the Mam., when directly comparing M. backebergiana to M. polythele the number of spines seems to be an obvious difference and I agree it's more like the former. Shame, I was hoping for M. polythele, and now it's just on a wish list.
Thank you everyone!

Hi Mat,
To me your Mammillaria seems to be Mammillaria mammillaris (old name M. simplex).
When it flowers, it should have small creamy flowers. The fruits are often more attractive then the flowers.
Peter.

B & Q is a UK do-it-yourself store with a gardening annex. There is no way that something like M. mammillaris would turn up there from a Dutch wholesaler.

I will add a comment about M. mammillaris with a lot of question marks, thank you both!

Re: Cacti identification thread
A few more (I am doing my best to make this thread a "pinned" one!):
Mammillaria backebergiana (after a suggestion from a FB post):
Mammillaria bombycina (with not so healthy looking "waist"):
Gymnocalycium pflanzii:
Echinocactus grusonii:
(Something)Cereus sp.?
Mammillaria sp.? (note the amazing hooked spines!):

Re: Cacti identification thread
PS: This is what's left of the first Mammillaria... The "shaft" was very soft, so I decided to do a surgery, judging by the colour it was the right decision.
