Me again....I was wondering whether to separate the small astrophytum from the large one. Any thoughts?
Thank you.

As Mike says, with imagination.

Pretty confident it is Stenocereus pruinosus.

Separating the 2 in spring is probably a good idea when you repot.
Partly because they are probably in an unsuitable peat based compost which should be removed (it's good for nurseries who keep plants warm and growing and never let them dry out completely, it's poor for hobbyists because it's hard to re-wet once dry). And also because the larger plant tends to dominate and can gradually starve the smaller plant of resources.

I agree that the second one is NOT Astrophytum, but a very nice Stenocereus pruinosus.

Thank you! I will separate the newly named stenocereus in a couple of weeks. It was tiny when I first got it and it's been in the same pot for a few years now.

Second one is not an astrophytum, good id for the Euphorbia.
