I've never started watering in February before.

Post by Nick_G »

I gave my South American cacti a good soak this morning. It's glorious here today and the 10 day forecast is similar. My Lophophoras will have to wait as I haven't taken all the old flowers and seed pods off them yet. They stain the plants if you leave them in place and water overhead early in the season. It washes off in time but it's unsightly for a while. I remember watering at the start of March many years ago and we had 4 inches of snow that night, I trust the weather forecasters more now  .

I've not watered my cacti yet but all the Echeveria and other succulents have had a couple of good waterings now. Was debating whether to give them a water yet or not!

I watered some Haworthias yesterday, and have just given a light watering to the Echeverias and Crassulas. Very spring-like here in Surrey, let’s hope it keeps up!

Hope you have got "the right seaweed".
I remember travelling back north from Southampton at the end of April in 1981. The snow got deeper and deeper no further north than London. And the train crawled.
I'm not brave enough to water the cacti yet. The succulents may have a teaspoon or two ...... between them.
Endeavouring to grow Aylostera, Echinocereus, Echinopsis, Gymnocalycium, Matucana, Rebutia, and Sulcorebutia. Fallen out of love with Lithops and aggravated by Aeoniums.
Currently being wooed by Haworthia, attempting hybridisation, and enticed by Mesembs.

Same here in Kent. First watering of all succulents apart from cacti - haworthias, gasterias, aloes, dorstenia and even chanced splash over brachystelmas, which are kept in back porch.

Very mild weather here and forecast to stay that way for a while, a number of plants showing signs of growth as it's been warm in the greenhouse in the sun. I've watered my succulents this week and small cacti.

I also watered my stuff under glass today. Seemed like a good idea, given the upbeat forecast.

Of course, aside from a couple of bits under cover, my outside stuff has been watered all through the winter anyway

It'll be another month before I water my summer growers. We're 600 feet up in Staffordshire.
