I have a high speed link (1Gb/100Mb) and no-one complained about issues with my talk. Perhaps this is something the Chairman should consider before lining up potential speakers - do they have an adequate Internet connection from which to present a talk?

I don't know if there are any Zoom guidelines for speed requirements, but it shouldn't be too hard to do a speed test in advance to get some idea of how good someone's connection is. Of course, other issues come into play with international traffic.

I did mention in the chat that using fancy complicated slide transitions causes problems if you have a low bandwidth somewhere between the speaker and the listener. You yourself might have a brilliant link but if the speaker does not or vice versa the visuals or/and audio break down.

late last year I suffered with sound problems when using zoom through chrome. Sound was always fine until screen saving was used then it went garbled.
Ian did a quick screen share one night and that's when I noticed the link.
So I now use both computers

Most people's uplink speed is lower than their downlink speed, so in most cases the speaker's speed is more critical than the listeners'.

However, if they are from far away, other traffic may also be a problem.

There is a Zoom application that you can download. It negates the need to login to zoom via a website/username/password.

The link will open a popup to start the download, then it needs installing as per usual.
IIRC one login with your account and then you shouldn't need to login again - just join meetings.

Sound may still be a problem, but it is by far the best way to be connected to zoom. It becomes a shortcut on your desktop and you simply click it to start zoom.

If you are running a laptop a wired connection will help rather than using wifi.

I don't think large images affect the speed - I was showing some very large image files on a private meeting last week with no problem; however the week previously when we were downloading a programme to the SkyBox the connection was painfully slow..... (so check your other devices......)

Moving images - yes - not a good idea.

The laptop's mic is silenced and a headset connected. There is no mic or video on the desktop so I can simply mute the speakers if I want to use the headset. I can take the headset off and listen via the speakers if not talking, as in during the talk.
