Good or bad bug?

Post by HaoBao » Wed Feb 24, 2021 5:17 pm

Spotted this little beetle/bug doing a few lengths in my pothos plant water. Just wondered if it might be a bad bug for the succulent plants near it?

The bug was about 2mm in length

All my plants are kept indoors and I started collecting in August 2018. Favourites are Pachyphytum, Echeveria, Haworthia, Mesembs and oddball Cacti.

Looks like a Carabid beetle, a predator of pests. Good not bad.

Oh no, come back bug! I put it in the garden, cheers for letting me know though Paul. I have heard Vine Weevils are bad but wouldn’t recognise one if I saw one

Vine Weevil adults are similar, but browner, less shiny, and speckled. Their heads are quite long and distinctive. The main problem is the grubs which live underground, but the adults can make a mess of leaves.

Most weevils have a long snout, which is a good clue.

..and they can't swim. So if a beetle's swimming, it's not a vine weevil
