Second watering for Echinocactus polycephalus today.

This one always dries out fast, partly because it has no top dressing. My original E. xeranthemoides. And a younger seedling.

What a superb collection of Echinocacti.

And the fact you have several shows it's no fluke - you really know what you are doing.

When will you stop watering them?

i've never got one more than about 2 years old.

They are magnificent!

These are indeed quite beautiful. I tried them once, no success. Tempting to try again.

But maybe I should wait for the Echinocactus zoom talk Iann might give for the BCSS in the future (hint!).

I love that plant! I have a huge fascination in plants with huge spines. Just setting myself up for a lot of pain

I give them a break from some time around May until July or August. Then they'll get stood out in a thunderstorm so I can admire the spines which are so brightly-coloured in the rain. Real watering doesn't start again until next year, just keeping them ticking over because they only grow for that short period in spring.
