I buy bags of 4mm horticultural grit and really like it mixed 50:50 with JI. It certainly isn't looks very much mainly igneous rock but exactly what types I've never bothered to try and identify.
But the cheapest I have found is about £4 per bag from my local garden centre. Does anyone know of a cheaper source? I'd happily buy ton bags!
The problem with the ton bags is delivery.
You need a truck with a hoist. I'm being quoted crazy delivery prices.
I bought my granite from Derbyshire Aggregates, not too far from Abbey Brook Cactus Nursery. It was called DALTEX Silver and was part of their resin products, they’ve got loads of stuff

Thanks for the link Paul - they list horticultural grit in pallets of 50 for £120 - works out at £2.40 a bag!
Seems like a good deal if it’s the right stuff, I really hope it is if you order 1,000Kg! I also hope your back is ok moving them all, sounds like a good workout.
I've found the place that stocks my local garden centre who say they'll do a mixed pallet delivery so seeing if they will do a non-commercial delivery or not! Might be able to get a better deal and yet grit I know is nice and angular.
Our David kirkbright did this for the branch several times we used to get a couple of mixed pallets, ideal way to do it if you can get other branch members involved & cheaper.
