I have just been noticed that Ludwig Bercht has passed away on March 2.
Ludwig has been very active for the Dutch succulent society Succulenta of which he was main editor for the Succulenta magazine. He has been named an honory member for Succulenta in 2018. He also translated many articles between Dutch and German to be published both for the Dutch and the German speaking public.
He is internationally well known as a Gymnocalycium enthusiast: Gymnocalycium berchtii was named after him and many Central and South American species carry habitat location numbers with his LB references. Until a few years ago Ludwig also ran an extensive seed list, mainly aimed at Central and South American cacti.
Sad to hear this news. I really liked him and I think the Dutch and the German succulent society will miss him very much.

Re: Ludwig Bercht
Elisabeth Sarnes mentioned this on Thursday during the DKG Zoom - such a shame to hear about his passing, very sad indeed.

Re: Ludwig Bercht
Sad news. I have a good number of Gymno and Weingartia seedlings from seed off his list.
Re: Ludwig Bercht
Very sorry to read. A few years ago we visited him.
I won't forget his half cotton tips. Every (sub)species had its own for pollination.

Re: Ludwig Bercht
I never visited his collection, although wanted to for quite some years. But today was the sale of the plants in his collection to individual enthousiasts. I have seen many of those cotton tips. I came home with 16 plants, mostly hardy Lobivias. He has a very big greenhouse (about 400+ square meters), but it is a bit of an example of a hobby taken too far with way too many plants one person can take care of.

Re: Ludwig Bercht
He must have been pleased to have such an excellent plant named for him.
