Faucaria when I was a teeenager. The flower looked similar and smelled strongly of artificial banana. Lovely little thing.

I HATE banana but LOVE banana flavour. That makes me want this plant .... expletive .... expletive ..... expletive.

The one I had was sold as Faucaria tigrina but I suspected it was not, even in my innocent uncynical youth. Bought at Keymarket supermarket which had a little garden section.

A couple of decades ago, I used to have a small lawn that was just dandelions with a few daisies in between. The most spectacular display, first of solid gold then of solid silver. The bees loved it, of course. The rest of the year it was a beautiful emerald green and so easy to care for. I passed the road a few years ago and saw that the new owner had asphalted the entire back yard except for a strip of traditionally boring lawn.
