A little Conophytum mystery...

Post by Rogan »

Maybe you can help - a few years ago I sowed (MSG?) seed of a few Conophytum species, and then lost some of the labels! They have grown into gorgeous little plants ~8mm (5/16") in diameter. Do you have any idea what they might be?

Thanking you in anticipation, Rogan.

My (first) guess is Conophytum ratum.

The bottom left one, is that from the same bag of seeds?

I agree. Look very like ratum, except bottom left which might be fraternum.
First it was orchids, then, since c.2001, cacti and succulents. I'm into South African plants, mainly conos, lithops and haworthias, with a few cacti, especially 'posh' mamms, turbs and other smalls. Now it’s stapeliads as well...

C. ratum they may be but, I've checked my acquisition database and have no record of ever trying to grow it from seed before; then again, I may have just forgotten...

Bottom left could be C. aff. françoiseae (?) as I've had seed of that before and I often recycle my potting soil.

Autumn in the southern hemisphere and the conos are popping!

Thanx a lot, Rogan.

If not C. ratum then surely another species in section Cheshire-Feles. C. acutum is the most similar.

Gorgeous flowers.

Growing a mixed collection of cacti & other succulents; mainly smaller species with a current emphasis on lithops & conophytum.
