At last .... flowers

I have this as Gymnocalycium bruchii. So glad to see flowers ... thought I'd have a barren year.
Endeavouring to grow Aylostera, Echinocereus, Echinopsis, Gymnocalycium, Matucana, Rebutia, and Sulcorebutia. Fallen out of love with Lithops and aggravated by Aeoniums.
Currently being wooed by Haworthia, attempting hybridisation, and enticed by Mesembs.

Turbinicarpus (related) I would say too. But I see 'ium' in the label...

What's it look like side on please? Doesn't look like a Gymnocalycium to me.

Gymnocalycium Bruchii
Gymnocalycium Bruchii
This is Gymnocalycium Bruchii, often thought to be a 'beginners' plant as it is easy to grow, flowers well and grows easily from offsets. I seem to remember one of the early Lamb's books used poor colour printing and showed it with a blue flower. It's unfortunate that botanists came up with the name Gymnocactus when there was already Gymnocalycium and they're easily confused as names though not as plants.

I think it is a Thelocactus.

Stripy buds and one or two of mine have buds forming.

The only Thelocactus with that colour flowers is Thelo Lausseri and the spination isn't right. I'd agree with Gymnocactus Beguinii.

My original comment was, "I have this as ...." because I too see no naked calyx. I was doubtful of its naming. Yes the partial label reveal is "ium" but it is in my handwriting. This provides a little more than just its name, although here, incorrect. It tells me that the plant was obtained from a mart or branch meeting; it was from a broken up collection being sold on; it could have originated from one of the dealers in Yorkshire who specialise in collecting or acquiring old collections before selling them on; it tells me that I repotted it and replaced a failed or damaged label. It did NOT flower last April from my pictorial diary compiled last year.
On the positive side, the flower was a wonderful find on an absolutely freezing Easter Sunday afternoon, and the signs of a few more to come, is a welcoming beginning to the year, and a useful subject for some specialist photography I wish to do this year.
Any thoughts about its name are most welcome, as my label machine is at hand and ready!

I have this picture in my mind of 'Lovejoy' type cactus 'dealers' up in Yorkshire, I didn't know there were any full time cactus nurseries left in Yorkshire but I'd like to think that there are some somewhere.

Stuart.
Yes we do have cactus nurseries here in GOC. One of which does seem to "recycle" old disbanded collections.
