Absolutely.
And I would throw in an additional thought or two. Would the ones which failed in the moss environment, have changed the course of evolution, had they survived? By creating artificial environments, do we change the course of evolution?

Not just the artificial environment. The Human selection of plants we find more 'worthy' and not natural selection of the fittest alters the path plants would benefit by.
But does the cultivation really impact the wildlife? It's hard to imagine the crested and variegated Echeverias from our gardens impacting biodiversity of Mexico.
Our lust for designer plants encourages plant reapers to search for more exotica, whether it be for native species as breeding stock by pillaging in Peru or by hybrids from Hampshire.
The "must have" plant for 2021 will probably be in the trash can for 2022. Plants are no different to cars and cellphones. Large 21st Century first world disposable incomes, make it big business to trade in "must-haves". The origin of the feedstock is irrelevant to traders. And in similar manner, the origin of the feedstock of the modern hybid car and cellphone batteries, the lithium is stripped from below the ground in developing countries of South America, and the eco systems above it are discarded.
Endeavouring to grow Aylostera, Echinocereus, Echinopsis, Gymnocalycium, Matucana, Rebutia, and Sulcorebutia. Fallen out of love with Lithops and aggravated by Aeoniums.
Currently being wooed by Haworthia, attempting hybridisation, and enticed by Mesembs.
The way I found very effective at reducing moss in my seed pots was to buy the very ratest moss spores I could find, ideally those at four times the price of my cacti seeds....
