Keeping my cats away from the plants

Post by Ava »

So I adopted two kittens last year and they have turned out to enjoy removing cactus seedlings from their pots and playing with them. Also chewing on the spines of the bigger plants. :???: Other than putting the plants in a room where the cats can't go, does anyone have any suggestions on how to deal with this? I can't be the only one...

Long experience has shown me that your latter option is the only one which will work, keep the plants away from the cats!

You could try the carrot and stick approach, only works if you are in the room but it might 'condition' their behaviour.
Carrot = small laser pointer to distract them when they go near, good fun!
Stick = spray bottle with water, good aiming should chase them. We used this method to stop one of ours using the couch as a scratching post, eventually we didn't have to spray we just shook the bottle and he would shiver and beat it somewhere else.
Good luck
