Pliospilos compactas

Post by Eric Williams »

Apologies for spelling. I have removed a seed pod from this plant to see if I can germinate a few seeds. Just wondered if I should have left it on the plant longer for seeds to be viable.. Thanks

If the capsule opens when you wet it then it is ripe. The seeds might germinate faster and more reliably if you leave them a few more months. Of course I don't know how long they've already been on the plant.

I think mesemb seeds often need a few months to mature, even if the capsule is dry and opens on wetting.
So maybe sow a few now, and if nothing happens within 2 or 3 weeks, try again in 2 or 3 months time.
