I was inspired by Paul in Essex to order these cuttings back in May last year, I've never grown them before and wasn't expecting blooms so soon. I rooted mine in water, some produced roots very quickly and I potted them up but one took months and months and stayed in water right through the winter, even after it had produced roots, before I got around to potting it up. It now also has a bud.
2 or 3 buds on the Nicole Paetz aborted, what causes that? Is it normal?
I was thinking of putting some in a sky planter. Anybody any experience of growing Epiphyllium in those or any other cultivation tips you can pass on?
How are you getting on with yours Paul?

Well done for flowering one so small! From reading up on them (not experience) they will abort buds if they don't have the reserves to carry them all.

As Ed says small plants often set more buds than they can support and then abort the extra ones.
Keeping the plant evenly moist and avoiding changing the orientation of the plant whilst in bud helps too, as plants that dry out or are moved will frequently drop buds. Generally the bigger the plant the more flowers you get

I don't think I can take much praise for that, it probably just likes the spring weather here.

Thanks for the insight, it probably hasn't been evenly moist, I look forward to them getting big, must be an amazing sight when a big plant is full of flowersAli Baba wrote: ↑Wed Apr 21, 2021 12:55 pm As Ed says small plants often set more buds than they can support and then abort the extra ones.
