Variable growth in Turbinicarpus

This is Turbinicarpus laui, fowering and offsestting normally.

But also deciding to pop out a flower bud towards the base of the plant instead of an offset.

Turbinicarpus jauernigii as previously described here:

Continuing to grow a 3-headed offset instead of a flower.

I'm going to get the Geiger Counter out just to check the background radiation.

I've got a Gymnocalycium where some buds deicded to turn into offsets - except they dont grow properly. And now, there are buds on them....

Very strange, the lower flower has now opened on the T. laui.
