Great flowers and the third photo was not what I expected being totally unfamiliar with this species! How curious!

I've seen New Zealand plants with a similar structure that lived on moving scree. If you cut the top off the turnip will regrow new heads.

I once had one that snapped in half. I potted both up, not very hopefully, but I ended up with 2 good plants! The root grew a new top - and the top eventually grew a new tap root. I'd not risk it as a regular propagation method though.
