This Gymno has been hiding in a sunny spot under a bench. It is huge 40cm tall and flowers well every year. Got it out and dusted of cobwebs and removed some deceased snails.( Giving it a new spot/view in the greenhouse)
Its not one I've come across often, it's definitely one of my favorite Gymnos. I wonder what it's called these days.

(Edited twice , auto correct gone mad ,,Gumbo , for one)

Horrible name but equally horrible spines - hence the name, I assume. I had one years ago but it was very prone to mealy bug attack and I eventually disposed of it when we moved house.

Hi Rod
This one seems pretty impervious to everything luckily. Its because of its spinyness that it's one of my favorites.
A real beast!
I'll have to take a photo of my saglione, before and after watering, grate the way the spines change color.

Nice old plant with super flowers that deserves a bit of love and to be let out from beneath its bench I would say.

One more , same angle as first photo. Its difficult to get the phone camera to accurately display the color change.

Your photos show the colour change really well Fero, the spines of G. saglionis are lovely, but look even better when they are wet (tu)
