I love the helical pattern of the areoles
Endeavouring to grow Aylostera, Echinocereus, Echinopsis, Gymnocalycium, Matucana, Rebutia, and Sulcorebutia. Fallen out of love with Lithops and aggravated by Aeoniums.
Currently being wooed by Haworthia, attempting hybridisation, and enticed by Mesembs.

Even small plants flower profusely, and produce masses of seed.

Active grower of caudiciform succulents and mesembs. I don't really grow cacti (very often).

They do put on a good show even from a very small plant as you say.

That's an amazing plant, Mike. I had an old one, but yours must be a least twice the size.

What size of pot is the plant in, Mike?

I love this species. It ticks all the right boxes for me.
Reliable flowerer
Unusual, attractive looks,
Grows well, even under my care.
Doesn't take up lots of room
Friendly spination.

Great Strombo, Mike! How old is it? I have one that's probably 30 years old, and spiny like yours. My younger strombos all lose their old spines.

It's a smaller form and keeps the juvenile spination for longer. Flowers on my plants seems to be a shade whiter than the species. Photos for comparison:
