I’m sure Pattock will confirm or deny but I think the last picture should be Huernia x pendurata, a cross between Huernia pillansii and Huernia pendula.

I am not an expert, I just read too much. I did once look this up and could not find any publication of the name. I was intrigued because I knew pandurata from growing Boesenbergia pandurata, a ginger relative. Lewis and Short knew of no Latin words starting with "pendu" except for pendulus. http://www.perseus.tufts.edu/hopper/tex ... 3Dpendulus

It does appear to be a hybrid and some people think it is between Huernia pillansii and Huernia pendula. Perhaps we should take into account the vegetative parts as well? The distinctive almost Hoodia-ish tubercles of Huernia pillansii seem not to have been inherited at all.

But wouldn't the name somebody chose for it be a better fit for a hybrid of Huernia pendula and Huernia barbata or Huernia oculata? Not a perfect fit but I assume they were neither a botanist nor a Latin grammarian.

So, should it be Huernia "pendurata", Huernia x pendurata or Huernia pendurata Hort.? Could it just be a sport of Huernia pendula, whether from a nursery or the wild? Or even a new species?

What a shame 23andMe only do DNA tests for one species.

Huernia x pendurata is a cross between H. hystrix and H. pendula.

I've only got three or four stapeliads.
Echidnopsis cereiform was flowering today.
