Austrocactus coxii

Post by esp »

I thought I'd got Austrocactus propagation cracked when I sowed A. coxii - great germination, and good ongoing survival. Typically, none of the subsequent attempts have been so successful.
It was still a pleasant surprise to notice buds forming on this one. Strong sun on Saturday brought out the first flower. Sown May 2018, Austrocactus coxii DJF_351 Gobernador Costa, Chubut, Argentina

Endeavouring to grow Aylostera, Echinocereus, Echinopsis, Gymnocalycium, Matucana, Rebutia, and Sulcorebutia. Fallen out of love with Lithops and aggravated by Aeoniums.
Currently being wooed by Haworthia, attempting hybridisation, and enticed by Mesembs.

Well done. I find it surprising just how quickly Austrocacti can grow from seed.

Thanks Ralph. Yes, they are fairly quick, but they often don't germinate, and are prone dying when young!
After 6 months or so they seem fairly straightforward (touch wood).
