This was given to me by a friend whose mother had a small cactus collection in her porch before she passed away. This (and the others )had been ignored for 12 months or more and was a red spider mite heaven. A bit of surgery and a lot of TLC and when it flowered last year I tentatively identified it as Aylostera albilosa. This is probably just a form of Aylostera muscula with longer softer spines.
It has done very well this year.

Re: Aylostera albipilosa
Lovely plant, I think I'd call it Rebutia Muscula, I've not grown Albipilosa for a while but it usually has red flowers and much denser white spination. It shows that plants can come through a red spider attack with a bit of time and care.

Lovely plant.
Well done with the rescue.
Well done with the rescue.
Endeavouring to grow Aylostera, Echinocereus, Echinopsis, Gymnocalycium, Matucana, Rebutia, and Sulcorebutia. Fallen out of love with Lithops and aggravated by Aeoniums.
Currently being wooed by Haworthia, attempting hybridisation, and enticed by Mesembs.

Re: Aylostera albipilosa
Thanks everyone. Stuart, I originally kept it in my conservatory (not letting THAT in my greenhouse) but in my minds eye it flowered more red than it is now, hence albilosa. It has longer spines than my original muscula, larger heads and much more floriferous. My original muscula may be a bit tired now, I’ve had it for a long time. Whatever it is called I like it!

Super plant, and you have the nice soft form there, which is not very common.
I don't think it's a form of A. muscula though. If you look at the flowers, they are much closer in shape to those on A. heliosa, with very narrow but long flower tubes (see below) . It also has a much redder flower than A. muscula, and much larger heads.
Here's my plant in 2007. It's a bit bigger now.

Re: Aylostera albipilosa
It reminds me of my Apricot Ice Rebutia, apart from the flower colour! There is an Orange Ice from Southfields too, could it be a very nicely flowering muscula hybrid?

Re: Aylostera albipilosa
It could well be some sort of hybrid. The rescued plants I believe all came from supermarket/garden centre purchases.
