There should be at least a month's post-release silence for each issue! I'm phoning my post office first thing tomorrow!

Looks like there is an article on digital art by our own @el48tel.
I recognise his avatar in one of the images.

Well done!

Thanks Teg!

Interesting article Terry. Some of my colleagues in my research group Cardiff University worked on nonphotorealistic rendering - computer algorithms that take in a photo, and automatically re-render it in an "artistic" style.

Below are one or two results from one of my photos; if anyone else wants to try, you can upload your own photos at

This is really interesting Ralph, thank you for sharing! I didn't read the details, but it feels very similar to the style transfer in deep learning area: https://www.tensorflow.org/tutorials/ge ... e_transfer

Edit: Results from an app called "Deep Art Effects" (Deep Art is the term worth a look!):

Original photograph of my Fenestraria in flower (absolutely not the quality you're used to on this forum!):

And the "Deep Art" collage based on it:

Edit: I just reached Terry's article in CW - it's absolutely a coincidence I posted the collage above, it does indeed seem to be the best form to show this art technique! How they say - great minds think alike!

The photo on the front cover had me stumped - all I could come up with was a hybrid Copiapoa Krainziana / Cinerea but the background coast didn't fit in. I didn't even consider Melocactus. For an amateur society, we're producing a very professional magazine.
