I got this free yesterday at our Chairs open day. It belonged to one of our members who passed away a couple of years ago. I have never grown this before.
Is it best to leave it as it is in the pot shown or would taking it apart and potting up the smaller ones be best.At what time of the year would this be expected to flower. Any comments would be appreciated.

Ernie that is Notocactus Magnificus and a fine plant it is.
Please don't split it up just put it in a larger pot, Large fine old clumps of cacti are getting rare these days and smaller N. magnificus plants are two a penny.
I do think plants that have been well looked after for many years should be passed on to the next generation, so we will end up with some large plants in serious collections as is quite common in Germany.

Thanks Ray. I will repot it as it is. I also got three other plants free from the same collection.
Succulents are really my thing but I do have some cacti. If I had not rescued the plants yesterday they were to be binned. In my mid 70's with failing health its nice to know that my grandson who is 14 is really into gardening and has said he will look after the collection after my day.
If you don't mind please have a go at identifying the others .The one on the left is a big lump and has a label Mamm. gracilis v fragilis (C/0067) Is that correct.

The middle one's probably Echinopsis huascha.

I think you can take the label as being correct for the plant on the left.
I bow to Phil's greater knowledge on the middle plant but it is certainly of the Trichocereus/Echinopsis group.
The plant on the right looks like a Gymnocalycium species but a photo from the side or top might give a better clue to the species.

Thanks Tony. You will probably have guessed why 'blue' is my favourite color.

One year after I rescued the plant from being composted(if someone had not taken it a branch greenhouse open day it was to be composted) its grown on well and flowered today. Its old, marked and not rare but whats not to love about it. Its been outside seen April.
