In these days the frailea have taken advantage of the clear sky and the great heat.
(densipectinata - pumila v. rubrispina - obscura - pygmaea var. dadakii).

They look lovely, first one is a hairy beast, ideal as you can have a big collection of them as they are little gems.

Interesting to see the differences in these flowers. I had an impression that all Frailea flowers were pretty much the same, but these photos show there are some differences once you can compare them.

My all Frailea species only produce seedpods.
What makes them to flower?
I keep my plants indoors.

It‘s the heat they need - I’ve only seen a few of mine opening their flowers, on the hottest days of the year. Lovely set of pictures, Ruggero…

I think the heat is needed as the buds form; I have had mine flower on dull cool days once flower buds have been set, as opposed to cleistogamous ones.

My impression is that the opening of these flowers is consequent to a mix of sun and temperature but the latter prevails (keep in mind that I have a 50% white shaded net and the opening of the flowers took place with about 30 ° Celsius ).
I have great admiration for the formidable growers who often post their experience here and I think they will be able to give a well-articulated opinion.
