Last year before lockdown I was looking at the cacti in a local Garden Centre with my head full of the usual criticisms when I spotted what looked like a double headed Matucana. That’s worth a punt at £3.99 I thought. It turned out to be two plants and one has flowered this year.

It looks like I have a spiny white form of Matucana madisoniorum. Well worth £3.99!

Result!

I once found Uebelmannia at a garden centre. Needless to say, I no longer have it.

👍👍👍👍👍
Endeavouring to grow Aylostera, Echinocereus, Echinopsis, Gymnocalycium, Matucana, Rebutia, and Sulcorebutia. Fallen out of love with Lithops and aggravated by Aeoniums.
Currently being wooed by Haworthia, attempting hybridisation, and enticed by Mesembs.

I'm getting to like matucanas more and more. Matucana polzii is renowned for making offsets on most of its areoles, but I pull most of them off and pot them up. This year it flowered for the first time, and I have to say the colour of the flower is a real winner:
