They changed the gift aid rules a number of years ago so that you can only claim it on a donation, not a standard ticket charged for entry. By making it slightly more than the standard price they seem to be able to claim gift aid on the full amount.

Thanks Ed, I didn’t realise that. It’s amazing you can learn here, and not just about plants :smile:

I thought it might be useful for people travelling some distance (and aiming for a very narrow window of arrival time) to have some "local knowledge" about "amenities" should they wish to plan to arrive early and then wait locally till their time slot becomes open.

Anyway - don't know if of use, but these are the local supermarkets (that are likely to have toilets, and decent sized carparks) and the nearest service stations on the motorway network.

LOCAL SUPERMARKETS:
----Walkden Shopping Centre, Ellesmere Shopping Centre, Bolton Rd, Manchester, M28 3BT. (10 minutes from CWL) which has McDonalds, KFC, Tescos, Marks and Spencers
----Morrisons Supermarket, 7 Irwell Place, Eccles, Manchester, M30 0FH. (10 minutes from CWL)
----Asda Supermarket, 1 Dewhurst Rd, Birchwood, Warrington WA3 7PG. (18 minutes from CWL)

LOCAL SERVICE STATIONS:
{if travelling from the SOUTH}
----M6, M56 = Lymm Poplar 2000 Services, Cliff Ln, Lymm, WA13 0SP. (30 minutes from CWL)

{if travelling from the NORTH}
----M6 SOUTHBOUND = Welcome Break Charnock Richard Services, Chorley PR7 5LR. (35 minutes from CWL)
----M61 SOUTHBOUND = Rivington Services, Horwich, Bolton BL6 5UZ. (20 minutes from CWL)

{if travelling from the EAST}
----M62/M60 WESTBOUND = Birch Services, Heywood, OL10 2QH. (15 minutes from CWL)

I asked the RHS Bridgewater Garden if it is possible to access the garden entrance from the Bridgewater Canal tow path, as this would shorten the walk from the Eccles tram stop. This is their reply:

The path that links the canal to Bridgewater itself is still under construction by Salford Council, however, we have been advised that this will be finished soon, so should be ready in time for your visit. I would recommend contacting us nearer the time for an update.

A bit more information from Bridgewater regarding "amenities", given there may be delays getting in on the day.......
The toilets are located immediately after the entrance, so you are very welcome to use these facilities before booking in at our ticket desks.

Just to duplicate what I've already written on the 'News & Events' section. Tickets are selling very quickly and will sell out well in advance for the Cactus World weekend. There's currently only about 80 left for the Saturday morning and most of the earlier weekends are already sold out. If you plan to go, buy tickets online now before they sell out.
