Most people treat their Pediocactus as dormant in the summer, but they're not completely asleep.
This P. sileri lost its roots, but it is growing new ones at the moment.
Some Pediocactus species develop buds in the summer of the year before they flower. This P. knowltonii is growing buds that won't open until March.

Don't forget to harvest those Pediocactus seeds I see sitting in those two pods.
My plant produced a whopping five seeds this year...

I've got a few of these already, but I might try the seeds this winter. Not likely to end up with hundreds too many!
