Ferocactus I.D.?

Post by Paul D »

Although it is difficult to tell from the photo, this Ferocactus is quite a large, old plant, 30+ years, diameter about 25cm, and about the same height. Can anyone put an I.D. to it please? The quite sparse spination has thrown me a bit.

My first thought was Echinocactus Ingens, anyone else got any other suggestions.

Or maybe a particularly short spined Ferocactus echidne. ..... spine length does vary considerably in this species.
