Advanced ID quiz

Post by iann »

Passing grade for the genus of these seedlings. Full marks for the species of both; I promise they are different! And extra credit for identifying the interloper marked with the arrow *lol*

Ian,

The interloper looks a bit like escobaria minima.

The other are turbinicarpus, I would guess at the top one being krainziana and the bottom one valdeziana

And I was going to guess Mammillaria - doh!

Based in Wiltshire and growing a mix of cacti and succulents.

Tending more towards cacti :D, particularly Gymnocalyciums, Rebutias, Sulcorebutias, Echinopses, Thelos, Feros and Mamms (and anything else I like the look of!) all in an 8 x 6 polycarb greenhouse and a few windowsills!

Bob, that's pretty amazing with the E. minima! But I'm afraid you got the two main ones wrong.

Without giving too much away, there are definitely some good ideas out there but nobody has even got a passing grade yet for two genus names. That's a little clue, the genus is different for the two photos.

Tina, you sound very confident, did you sow Phil's M. albiflora seed?

Ok Ian,

Perhaps the first one is a sulcorebutia but after that I am lost.
On the second could it be escobaria lauii

I have to come clean. The answers are there in amongst all the guesses, but nobody has put it together yet :)
