Have you tried Opuntia humifusa yet? I grafted one seedling of mine when they were about 6 months old. It's here side-by-side with an ungrafted one (although these are stunted by neglect and a bit damaged at soil level by a recent overheating incident). It's an excellent stock for keeping the scion shape but doesn't always accelerate growth much so it's better to deal with (for example) rotting sensitivity rather than for when fast growth is wanted. It is supposed to be good at growing in width as the scion does, rather than 'necking' - not sure about that yet.AnTTun wrote:Speaking of cintia.. anyone knows good grafting stock for it? I tried three so far and it grows quite elongated on all of them.

Thanks for the tip Phil_SK. I wasn't too lucky with my o. humifusa grafting efforts so I threw it away ( ). But I might try some other opuntia stock and see what happens...

Persevere with humifusa. I think some of the other opuntias will 'push' the scion too much (except fragilis, perhaps). humifusa spends most of the year looking very shrivelled and even when the scion is growing well it looks a bit rubbish. Make sure it's properly rehydrated before you do the graft, though.
That's about as un-wrinkled as that one gets!Phil Crewe, BCSS 38143. Mostly S. American cacti, esp. Lobivia, Sulcorebutia and little Opuntia

Hello,
Do you know how many cm in diameter and height is a very old Cintia knizei non-grafted?
I have seen pics with 4 cm diameter and 10 cm height.
