Close up of a clump of the very appealing bromeliads which dotted the hillside.

There were also a few Tephrocactus molinensis present. I assumed that they are named for the Molinos we stopped at for lunch and that this area must be its type locality. Maybe someone could confirm this?

Those G. spegazziniis are really beautiful. They've become one of my favourites thanks to your travelogue
I'm enjoying following your travels and plants in habitat so much that I wish it never ends.

Seconded. There is now no choice for me but to go on one of these trips and see all these wondrous sights first hand. One of the most riveting internet travelogues I have ever had the pleasure of reading - thank you, gentlemen!!

Thanks for your kind comments Devrim and Paul. I find, reviewing my pictures, that we missed some really dramatic scenery earlier on in the day, so I'm just going to backtrack a bit so you don't miss out. There's some more astonishing Gymno. spegazzinii to come later so hang on tight!

Right, now back to the cacti. This is a new stop. They all looked pretty similar today. This one might be called La Cabana. This is what the place looked like, with the gang plant spoting.
