Zone 6 Convention NW London Sunday 5th Sept 2021

Post by Apicra »

Our convention last year was planned for September, but regrettably had to been cancelled. Zone 6 is going to try again this year on Sunday Sept. 5th 2021. As usual it will feature three top presentations, c&s plant sales and a light lunch all-inclusive with tickets sold in advance. Since it is being organised later than usual, speakers have yet to be booked, but please reserve this date in your diary now.

The venue and catering are booked though. It will be held at the Hamilton Centre, Brunel University London, Uxbridge, Middlesex UB8 3PH. https://www.brunel.ac.uk/greentrail/inn ... ton-Centre Further information will be added here as it becomes available.

Best regards and keep well,
Derek Tribble,

A week later and I'd try the old "birthday discount" trick!

Is signing up needed, or should I just show up on the day?

Arrangements for buying tickets are likely to be similar to last time:

Please do not just turn up on the day - catering has to be ordered in advance from the University and we need to know numbers attending in advance to make detailed plans for coping with covid precautions. If lots of people want to attend, as we hope, there are options for booking more space.

Best wishes,

Dear Cactophiles,

It was all organised - a cactus convention with three top speakers and great plant sales at Brunel University, Uxbridge - and we were about to start selling tickets.

But a review of the likelihood of people attending such an event in this pandemic was disappointing. Covid cases, hospitalisations and deaths are rising at an alarming rate. For the start of Sept, the (admittedly uncertain) forecasts suggest that we will be near another peak, higher than any before. Even though most will have been double vaccinated, it will not be the right time to encourage cactus people to meet all-day indoors at a regional event. Several outdoor regional cactus events are planned and have a much better prospect of success. Regrettably the host branch no longer have enough enthusiastic support to organise the event and the Zone 6 committee has agreed to postpone the convention until 2022, when we will probably try again at the same venue.

Best regards,
Derek Tribble,

That's disappointing for all, including organisers, but understandable. Maybe an outdoor event is an option?

Yes, how about a pop-up cactus car boot sale somebody please?

But all good events, depend upon knowing a good site.

Best wishes,
