Hello from Nottinghamshire

Hi all from Notts, actually nearer Mansfield. I'm a gardener by trade and tend to be pulled in different directions with my interests, having some cacti and succulents, a few carnivores, a few bonsai as well as growing my veg and ornamentals for the garden.

I have a very modest collection of cacti and succulents compared to most on here, very much limited by window space at the moment. I've generally picked them up from garden centres rather than specialist nurseries, so some I have still not properly identified as they tend to be labelled 'cactus'. If anyone can tell me what the large grey blue plant at the front is I'd be very grateful, I have at various times thought it was a Pachyphytum, an Echeveria and a Sedum and I think I've probably over potted it. Photos below.







Excitingly though, we're selling the hot tub that came with our house (finally) and I'm going to put my share of the proceeds towards putting an 8'x12' greenhouse in it's place. This means that I can expand my collection and give some of my favourites, like the Austrocylindropuntia and Aristaloe, the space they deserve! And the Crassula ovata can finally have some proper light, there being no South facing area in our house big enough for it. I'm quite interested in getting some Lithops and Conophytum, don't know if I've missed the boat a bit on them for this year?

I joined the society just before Christmas so hopefully will get confirmation soon and am very much looking forward to receiving the first CactusWorld and getting some expert advice from you all!

Do you know about Abbey Brook Cactus Nursery t'other side of Matlock? I have not been for about ten years but I would advise visiting when it opens again in Spring. http://www.abbeybrookcacti.com/

Welcome Alex, you have some nice plants there. It will be good when you can get your greenhouse, much more useful than a hot tub!

Hi Alex, I'm in Nottinghamshire too. Welcome to the society.

I'd say your plant is a Pachyphytum or X Pachyveria looking at the flowers.

I'd certainly give AbbeyBrook a phone call in the spring.
The MSG group seed list is due out in a couple of months time for Lithops and Conophytum seeds.

Thanks for the welcome all! x Pachyveria scheideckeri looks like a good match, it does have yellow flowers but for the life of me I can't find a photo of them blooming. Thanks for the ID on that.

I'll check out Abbey Brook, thanks all for the recommendation. I'll keep an eye peeled for the MSG seed list, hopefully by that time I'll have the greenhouse up or I'll have to fill up the windowsills with propagation trays again!
