Not sure if this really counts but hadn't noticed the big difference in colour before.

This was the biggest, purplist flower I could find! Echinocereus viereckii ssp. huastecensis (NCL lumps all these baby bum smooth upto spiny horror variants into E. viereckii ssp.morricallii)

Hmmm, difficult isn't it? I'd say Frithia is definitely magenta, especially when fully open. Let's hope Diane can decide

As my plant has obligingly opened a flower today I have done a quick test in Photoshop and there is some purple in this flower but no magenta when looking for exact colour match

It might not look like it but I did clean this plant before taking the photograph

Don't worry, Jim, I am always off in my colour judgements! I drive my husband mad as he used to work in painted plastics for cars (bumpers etc), and colour printing when scanning was the new kid on the block (for Crosfields) and had a colour matching test in which he scored very well, which included gradation skills. I got a terrible score. I think the computer is partially responsible, because I don't have a problem matching shades in clothing for example ( well, not so that anyone has said) Having said all that my Frithia looks like this:

After another attempt at cleaning and a bit more sun

I'm not sure why the leaves on my plant look to be darker than Heather's and Rogan's might just be because I based the exposure on the flower so the leaves could be a bit underexposed.

I thought Diane had chosen a really good topic but I am beginning to think she may well be regretting it! I do not
envy her choosing a winner - especially when defining "purple" seems well nigh impossible!! I wish her luck!
